Making housing more affordable for local people

I support the Government's plans to introduce regulation on short term holiday lets requiring owners to apply for planning permission so that the council can manage the local holiday let market. We must also ensure that any new homes which are built in areas of acute need are limited to being bought by local people.

I am strongly opposed to the overdevelopment of areas like Cayton and Eastfield where thousands of houses have been built without any new infrastructure when there are hundreds of empty homes across the constituency. It is unacceptable that the equivalent of half the number of new houses being built have been turned into second homes when local people can no longer afford to buy in their own town or village. We must not allow our seaside villages to be turned into ghost towns.
