Compensation for our fishing community and standing up for our farmers

I will work with North Yorkshire Council to push the government to provide compensation for our fishermen following the crustacean die-off and continue investigations to find out what is causing it. Fishing is the lifeblood of our coastal communities and it is important to ensure that government is on their side to help them get through this difficult period as it supported those struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic. I will also hold Yorkshire Water to account to ensure they fulfil their commitments on stopping sewage discharges and ensure legislation is tough enough to combat their failure, as a committed conservationist I believe that cleaning up the water in our bays is essential.

Coming from a farming family I know that farmers are the backbone of our country, and the recent war in Ukraine has shown the importance of us being energy and food independent. The uncertainty of the last few years has made matters worse, so I will work with the CLA and the NFU to ensure that long term solutions are provided by the government to give our farmers the support they need to prosper.
